HARRINGTON ROAD, LEYTONSTONE

Dickson Architects were appointed by Bourne United Charities to design a new housing development for an infill site which currently is used as garages and ad-hoc parking. The scheme provides 6 high quality homes in the Borough of Waltham Forest. A mix of typologies include one-bed flats and two-bed starter homes.

The development follows the theme of a Patio house in a hit and miss urban form laid out along a new cobbled street. The blocks are punctuated by gaps maintaining openness through the site whilst increasing outlook and avoiding overlooking. A single storey courtyard house completes the mews.

Living areas are located at first floor level to maximise views. External private amenity space is provided on both levels. The ground floor patio is both private and secure with access only from the bedrooms. The upper inset terrace provides a seamless extension to the living space…this could also be used for casual dining.

Similar to Colony Mews the roofscape is angled in two directions reducing the mass along the site boundary while offering increased ceiling heights internally. Materially the houses are constructed in a pale yellow brick with matching cast stone which is used to define the site entrance and connection of the built form.

The project is currently being developed for town planning consent.
