YORKSHIRE ROAD
Dickson Dickson Architects were appointed by a private Client in 2023, to develop a scheme for the partial redevelopment of a light industrial workshop, occupying a corner site off Yorkshire Road in Limehouse. The brief was to retain 50% of the metal workshop and utilise the remaining site to provide private residential accommodation.
The site presented challenges, flanked on one side by the high-line overground railway. The scheme will deliver two high-quality two-bedroom flats, including an accessible flat which opens onto a walled garden to the rear.
The design follows the urban grain of the listed terraced houses along Yorkshire Road, with the new flats taking the form of an end of terrace house. A carved-out corner gives architectural character while reducing mass.
Materially, stock brick will complement the mix of brick types in the immediate context. A zinc roof in recognition of the current site use. A reconstituted stone base plinth will tie in with the rendered plinths to the existing adjacent terraced houses.
The scheme is currently in planning.
